Virgin Voyages' guide to Dubrovnik
DUBROVNIK
The Croatian Republic of Adventure
Across the Adriatic Sea from Italy, is Dubrovnik — the (unofficial) capital of Croatia’s dazzling Dalmatian Coast. The subtropical climate has made this former village-turned-fortified city an ideal port for merchants and seafarers since the 7th-century and an ideal backdrop for our Sailors (and Hollywood location scouts) since the 21st.
Kickin’ it in Dubrovnik
The Dubrovnik Riviera Escapade
See Croatia’s ancient architecture and sublime natural beauty blend into a breathtaking coastline the way sailors have for centuries on a boat ride along the Dubrovnik Riviera. Sailing toward Dubrovnik's city walls along the Lapad Peninsula and past the Grebeni Lighthouse, you'll stop at Kolocep Island to snorkel around the glowing blue waters of the Modra Špilja Cave, then head to Lopud Island to grab a bite and catch some sun at Sunj Beach.
From Dubrovnik to King's Landing
Dubrovnik's Old Town is so captivating and picturesque (literally) that it made the ideal backdrop for HBO’s Game of Thrones. From the gates of King's Landing (aka the Pile Gate) to the site of the Battle of Blackwater (the Lovrijenac Fort), you'll visit the spots where some of GoT's most famous scenes were shot. With pics from the show in hand, your guide will situate you both in the fictitious world and the historical facts — cut to Tyrion Lannister's infamous "where is the god of tits and wine?" line.
Dubrovnik From Different Angles
Peeking at the nearby islands dotting the ocean and the huge rocky cliffs that cut the shore, you'll rise to the top of Mount Srd on a cable car. Climb the famous stairway at Pile Gate and follow your guide along the southern part of the walls. Spot the Minčeta, St. John's, and Bokar Fortresses, see the Maritime Museum and gaze at the traditional orange rooftops that give Dubrovnik's Old Town an exceptional (and stunning) look. Then, head back down and explore the medieval city from within.
We have even more in our curated catalog.
Elaphiti Islands & Its Cultural Heritage
Dubrovnik
Embark on a sea adventure and witness the Elaphiti Islands' breathtaking landscape first-hand. Island hopping from Šipan to Lopud on a motorboat, you'll stop at Sudurad Harbor to see the elegant Skocibuha Family Manor, spot the 14th-Century St. Mary's Franciscan Monastery, and explore the fascinating Djordjic–Mayneri Botanical Garden. With sweeping views of the medieval houses and fortresses bordering the coast, you'll enjoy a lovely lunch on board to explore some more.
